GRC Holiday Traditions: In With the Old, and In With the New

GRC Group with ChiliThere’s something about the holidays that makes us want to establish traditions–things to count on and look forward to throughout the year that bring us together. And while this is certainly true at home, we find ourselves wanting to create holiday habits at the office too. This year, we’ve added a new tradition and revisited one we started last year.

In With the New: Chili Cookoff

One afternoon we plugged in our crockpots instead of our computers, and the office has never smelled better. Our first ever chili cookoff featured nine worthy contenders, but only one chef could walk away with the coveted top position (and a full calendar year of bragging rights).

To ensure a fair trial, we enlisted the help of Mitch Benjamin (aka Meat Mitch), a world champion pitmaster, restaurant owner and the author of BBQ Revolution, to serve as the judge. Ultimately, Managing Partner Paul Maxwell was crowned as Chili Champion (though we have it on good authority that the honor actually belongs to his wife, Lily), and Business Development Director Christie McFall snagged the popular vote by adding beer and bacon to her crockpot creation.

In With the Old: Phoenix FamilyGRC Group with Presents

But as much as we love a little friendly competition, perhaps our favorite tradition involves us all working on the same team. For the second year in a row, we partnered with Phoenix Family, a nonprofit that works to empower children, families and seniors to access the essential resources they need to improve their lives and break generational poverty, to “adopt” two families for the holidays. We’re grateful that these hardworking single mothers in our community allowed us the privilege of providing gifts to their children. It’s our hope that by easing the extra pressures that can come with this season that these families will have the space to create their own special holiday traditions.

Likewise, we hope the coming days are merry and bright for you and yours.
