Great Range Capital Welcomes 2024 Internship Cohort

If you live in the Midwest, summer has no doubt already made its arrival known in sweltering ways. The same is true at Great Range Capital, but we happily have another and far more welcome change that marks the beginning of this season: the arrival of our summer analysts.
This year, we have the honor of welcoming four different interns from universities across the Midwest, each with their own stories, skills, and plans for the future. For the next several weeks, these brilliant, hardworking professionals will be treated as full-fledged team members, participating at every level of the firm and in each step of the deal process:
Sydney Newton
Sydney is a sophomore at Northwestern University where she studies economics and minors in both political and data science. Her college pursuits were heavily influenced by her time competing in DECA throughout high school, and her interest in finance, specifically, was developed by joining a stock pitch club her freshman year of college. Sydney comes to GRC with prior PE experience, as she’s already completed an internship with a small private equity firm in Chicago, Tyree & D’Angelo Partners. Sydney’s hobbies include running and reading. She’s also an avid fan of football, reality TV shows, and traveling, and loves going on walks with her dogs and family.
Landon DiLeonardo
Landon’s love for business and finance was inspired by his small business-owning uncle. Now entering his junior year at Kansas State University, Landon is pursuing dual majors in accounting and finance and serves as the Student Finance Association President. His interest in investment banking and private equity was sparked and fostered by joining the K-State Finance Scholars Program, and the University Venture Fund Crossroads Program has helped him learn more about quality private investments. Landon plans to continue his education this summer, learning as much as he can about how deals are executed. In his free time, Landon enjoys hiking–particularly in Estes Park, Colorado–playing tennis, and supporting K-State sports.
Colton Galligos
Colton’s passion for finance was ignited at a young age when his grandfather began helping him invest his earnings from working on the family cattle farm into the stock market. Now a rising junior at the University of Kansas majoring in both finance and accounting, Colton says that participating in the Jennett Finance Scholars Program and Access Distributed has given him the opportunity to learn about careers in finance, as well as access to mentorship, investment case competitions, and the chance to learn and practice the skills he needs to succeed in the industry. These experiences, along with serving on the executive committee of the Rock Chalk Investment Club, have brought further career clarity and excitement for a future in PE or investment banking. In fact, Colton has already lined up an internship in investment banking for next summer at Piper Sandler. When he has free time, Colton enjoys all things outdoors, including fishing, hiking, baseball, and going to the lake.
Tommy Matthys
Tommy entered Northwestern University with an interest in business but a somewhat fuzzy vision of the career path he wanted to pursue. Now a rising junior majoring in economics and minoring in both legal studies and business institutions, Tommy credits his involvement in the Hispanic Finance Association and a previous internship at Shore Capital Partners with cementing his interest in finance. He also participates in a pro-bono consulting club on campus, plays on the club tennis and pickleball teams, and is very involved with his fraternity. Tommy notes that he’s excited to have the opportunity to return to his hometown of Kansas City this summer and is eager to learn about GRC’s investment strategies. Outside of school activities, his hobbies include spending time at the lake with friends and family and watching the TV show Ozark. Tommy also loves traveling and is looking forward to studying abroad in Madrid, Spain, this fall.
