Great Range Capital Welcomes Adam Hazlett

You never know where a simple LinkedIn message will lead. In the case of Adam Hazlett, who reached out to GRC in search of a place where his love of small businesses could flourish, we’re thoroughly pleased to share that his earnest inquiry has led us to add another Analyst to the Investment Team.

Meet Adam Hazlett

A native of Lakeville, Minnesota, Adam first became interested in finance when he participated in the Finance Scholars Program as a student at Kansas State University. But it was during his senior year that reading the HBR Guide to Buying a Small Business sparked a passion for small business/middle market private equity in particular, in part because of the value they bring to their local communities. And after spending a few years independently learning about his new interest, Adam knew he wanted to someday find a role investing in and working with small businesses.

After graduating with distinction from K-State with a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting, Adam became a Consultant at Deloitte Consulting. While there, he was responsible for advising clients through various M&A and restructuring activities, including portfolio company improvement, due diligence, and separation and integration management, across diverse industry sectors (e.g., Life Sciences, Financial Services, Industrial).

And yet, the pull toward small businesses remained, prompting Adam to reach out to Vice President Philip Scheuerman via LinkedIn. “I expressed my interest in working with small businesses and my desire to learn the skills and knowledge it takes to become a good investor,” Adam recalls. “GRC seemed like a perfect fit, including the depth and experience across the board from everyone at the firm.” And though he’s only been in his new position for a matter of weeks, Adam feels confident his instincts were correct and says he’s looking forward to learning  about the PE deal process from his colleagues, as well as getting to know GRC’s portfolio companies.

Outside of the office, Adam enjoys getting outside with his fiancé and enjoying the many excellent food and drink spots throughout Kansas City. And while you can take the man out of Minnesota, you can’t necessarily take the Minnesota out of the man, which is why you can also find Adam playing hockey in a few local leagues.
