Great Range Capital Welcomes Cameron Gornet and Jack Dwyer
We are thrilled to welcome the newest members of Great Range Capital’s Investment Team: Senior Associate Cameron Gornet and Associate Jack Dwyer. Both are Midwest natives, both played college sports, and both share a love for the people and businesses that make up our region.
Cameron Gornet
When Cameron entered Harvard University, he had two potential paths ahead of him: medicine and finance. As the youngest child of two St. Louis physicians, Cameron grew up in a decidedly science-heavy household and had already seen his oldest sibling follow their parents’ footsteps. But it was his blood-averse brother who introduced him to the field of finance. “He was living in Boston at the same time I was at Harvard,” he says. “I think hanging out with him during my college years made me look up to him and want to follow the same path he’d chosen.”
With a bachelor’s degree in economics under his belt, Cameron moved to Tampa, Florida, to work as an investment banking analyst in the Distribution Group at Baird. Next, he moved to Miami, where he focused on underwriting investment opportunities, identifying strategic acquisition targets, and monitoring performance across portfolio companies. And now, Cameron has made the move to GRC—another career decision that was influenced by his brother.
“While Miami is fun, I was ready to return to the Midwest,” he explains. “My brother had just started working in Kansas City and was making local connections. He’s the one who told me about Great Range Capital, and the rest is history. The Midwest has some of the best companies and people, and I love being part of a team in which we’re all working toward making GRC the go-to pick in the Heartland for founders.”
Outside of the office, you can find Cameron searching for a men’s league ice hockey team to join (he’s a former college varsity player) or horseback riding with his wife. And when summer comes around again, Cameron is looking forward to visiting the Lake of the Ozarks—a family tradition since he was 10 years old.
Jack Dwyer
Much like Cameron, sports have played a major role in Jack’s life, including introducing him to Great Range Capital. “I first met members of the firm on a golf course in Kansas City,” he explains. “From that point on, I was always impressed with GRC and thought it would be an ideal place to build a career down the road, especially given the firm’s Midwestern investment focus and values.”
Jack went on to attend and play golf for Lake Forest College in Illinois, graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He then accepted an analyst role at PMCF Investment Banking in Chicago, where he was involved in a broad range of M&A transactions in the industrial and business services sector.
But after spending a few years in Chicago, Jack knew it was time to look homeward and revisit his early GRC plans. “The opportunity to join the firm came at the perfect time and felt like a great fit with my background and GRC’s transaction industry/size focus,” he recalls.
Thus far, Jack notes that the best part about working at GRC has been learning about each of our portfolio companies—understanding what they’re seeking in M&A opportunities and thinking about how those fit into their broader growth strategies. His coworkers are another plus. “I’m very excited to be working alongside such talented and driven colleagues who bring a ton of industry experience and are always happy to mentor me,” Jack explains.
When he isn’t working, Jack still enjoys playing golf, traveling, and spending time outdoors. Some of his favorite outdoor activities include making trips to the Lake of the Ozarks, hiking in national parks, and snow skiing.
