Spirit Miller: Built on Relationships, Positioned for Growth

For more than three decades, Spirit Miller has built its business one delivery and one relationship at a time. From its roots in St. Joseph, Missouri, the company has grown into a leading driveaway services provider with additional offices in Iowa, New York, and Quebec, with customers across North America. Spirit Miller primarily transports specialty commercial vehicles from OEMs, upfitters, and dealers to users in various end markets. In partnership with GRC, the platform intends to pursue strategic acquisitions in the driveaway services industry.

The company was founded by Howard Miller, whose commitment to hard work, relationships, and customer service shaped the foundation Spirit Miller operates on today. Great Range partnered with Mike Miller (son of Howard Miller) and Co-Owner Derrick Field, who will continue to play key leadership roles in the company.

“My father built Spirit Miller on relationships and reliability, and that’s what Derrick and I have worked to carry forward,” Mike says. “In GRC, we found a partner who understands what we’ve built and shares our commitment to growing it the right way.”

When Great Range Capital partnered with Spirit Miller in September 2025, the firm’s interest was rooted in a shared appreciation for what had been built and a belief in what the company could become.

“Spirit Miller is the kind of business we seek to partner with. A thirty-year company built on a reputation that doesn’t happen by chance,” says GRC Managing Partner Paul Maxwell. “Mike, Derrick, and the team have created real durability in this market, and we’re glad to partner with them as they take the next step.”

To further support the growth of the Spirit Miller platform, Chris Bix also joined the company as Chief Executive Officer, bringing experience from his prior role as CEO of Platform Logistics and earlier executive positions with Team DriveAway. Additionally, Steve Wambold joined the Board as Executive Chairman. Steve is the former CEO of Team DriveAway and currently is CEO of Letterman’s Energy, a leading propane platform.

“Mike and Derrick have always kept quality and reliability at the forefront of Spirit Miller,” says Bix. “I’m honored to be part of continuing their legacy as we grow Spirit Miller’s presence across new customers and markets.”

Looking ahead, Spirit Miller is well-positioned for its next phase of growth. With an experienced leadership team and a hard-earned reputation in the market, the company is actively pursuing opportunities to expand both organically and through complementary acquisitions in the driveaway services sector.
